Two Brothers

In collaboration with UAP, Dennis Nona developed Two Brothers based on a traditional legend from his home island of Badu. 7m cast bronze canoe is supported by six paddles, raising it 5 meters above the ground. The patterning and position of two mother-of-pearl stars seen on the sides of the canoe’s hull reflect the strong wind (Sagerr) and soft wind (Nagai).

Cycle and Upstream

Pich’s work connects us to a simpler understanding of the process of hands-on art-making. His work emerges from a visceral experience with the materials he employs. Taking the natural forms of bamboo and rendering them in rigid metal, Pich invests the latter with an organic character and supple humanity.

Delphinus

In collaboration with UAP, KAUST has taken an innovative, interdisciplinary approach to research, and this is echoed in the influences at the heart of Donna Marcus’ work, Delphinus, which overlaps aesthetics and ideas of the microscopic, macroscopic, organic, industrial and domestic.

Star Projector

Star Projector is a based on an actual apparatus used for projecting an accurate image of the night sky in large planetariums, the 5.7m steel and aluminum structure has all the appearance of futuristic technology without the function. Reduced to pure form, it reflects something of the nature of the human beings who created it.
